The role

This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Force Coordination and Operations as a Firearms Licensing Administrative and Enquiry Officer.

As a Firearms Licensing Administrative and Enquiry Officer you will manage firearms and explosives licensing applications from start to finish. This includes conducting applicant visits, completing risk assessments, and gathering information to support informed decision-making. You will carry out interviews, record statements, and undertake investigations, providing clear advice and recommendations. The role may also require attending court, making this a varied and responsible position requiring strong attention to detail and effective communication skills.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage a wide range of firearms and explosives applications, including personal, commercial, dealer and club licences.
  • Complete thorough background checks using national systems and review supporting documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct interviews with applicants and licence holders to assess suitability and ongoing compliance.
  • Inspect and approve storage facilities, advising on security improvements in line with Home Office guidance.
  • Carry out inspections of dealers, clubs and explosives sites, ensuring adherence to licensing requirements and regulations.

What you’ll bring:

  • Educated to GCSE level (including Maths and English) or equivalent experience, with strong IT skills and accuracy in data handling.
  • Experienced in administrative roles, with the ability to manage workloads independently and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrates sound problem-solving skills, including risk assessment and applying guidance to make informed decisions.
  • Self-motivated team player, able to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce clear reports, handle sensitive conversations, and build effective working relationships.
