This role suits an optometrist looking for a supportive practice environment, whether building a long-term permanent base or seeking flexible locum work. Carry out comprehensive NHS and/or private sight tests, including refraction, ocular health examination, and appropriate use of practice diagnostic equipment (e.g. OCT, fundus photography, visual fields). Assess and manage a range of ocular conditions, referring to Hospital Eye Service (HES) or GP as clinically indicated. Maintain accurate, timely clinical records in line with College of Optometrists and practice standards. Ensure compliance with GOC standards of practice, clinical governance, and health & safety requirements. Support practice performance by maintaining efficient testing times while ensuring thorough, high-quality patient care. Degree in Optometry (BSc (Hons) Optometry or equivalent) from a GOC-approved programme. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one). Independent Prescribing (IP) qualification, or willingness to undertake IP training. Prior experience in a high-street multiple, independent practice, or hospital optometry setting. Experience with paediatric or low vision assessments. Comfortable balancing clinical thoroughness with commercial testing schedules. Committed to ongoing CPD and professional development.
