Lead and Principal Platform & Infrastructure Engineering – United Kingdom

Employed | Platform & Infrastructure Engineering | Full-time

About the role

We are working with multiple clients in the United Kingdom to source experienced professionals for Lead and Principal Platform and Infrastructure Engineering roles. These positions are for strategic leaders who want to shape technical roadmaps, define standards, and drive operational excellence across high-scale, business-critical environments. You will be the authority on cloud and hybrid infrastructure, bridging the gap between complex engineering execution and broader business objectives to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Some roles may require security vetting depending on the specific client or project requirements.

What you'll be doing

  • Define and implement technical standards for robust cloud and hybrid infrastructure.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of platform development, from architectural design and automation to cost optimisation.
  • Mentor engineering teams and foster a culture of continuous improvement through modern engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to translate complex technical decisions into clear business value.
  • Drive the adoption of Site Reliability Engineering practices to ensure system performance and security.
  • Influence technical strategy at a high level while maintaining alignment with business goals.

What we're looking for

  • Extensive experience in platform, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering.
  • Proven leadership experience in mentoring, managing, or setting technical strategy for engineering teams.
  • Deep understanding of cloud or hybrid infrastructure architecture and container orchestration.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform, which is essential for this role.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, observability, and security best practices.

This role suits

You will thrive here if you are a strategic thinker who enjoys influencing technical direction and mentoring others while remaining hands-on with complex infrastructure challenges.
