I am seeking experienced Adults Lawyers to support Dorset Local Authority on a temporary basis for an initial 3‑month assignment. This role focuses on delivering high‑quality legal advice and representation across Adult Social Care matters, with a strong emphasis on Court of Protection and Mental Health work.
You will manage a varied caseload, provide clear and practical legal advice to client departments, and handle complex statutory responsibilities. At least one appointed candidate must have demonstrable experience managing Deputyship applications in the Court of Protection.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of Adult Social Care legal matters
- Conduct Welfare and Section 21A applications in the Court of Protection
- Provide advice on Ordinary Residence matters
- Handle Nearest Relative applications
- Manage and advise on Deputyship applications
- Provide legal advice relating to the Mental Health Act
- Attend hearings and undertake advocacy where required
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners
Skills & Experience Required
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with a valid practising certificate
- Proven experience in Adult Social Care law
- Strong experience in Court of Protection matters, including Welfare and Section 21A applications
- Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Act
- Experience advising on Ordinary Residence and Nearest Relative matters
- Essential: must have experience managing Deputyship applications
- Excellent communication and case management skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage competing priorities
