The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Adults Litigation Solicitor to join a Local Authority Legal Services team on a 6-month basis. You will handle a complex caseload of adult social care matters while supporting the wider team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage a busy caseload of adult social care litigation matters
- Handle Court of Protection work, including Section 21A and welfare applications
- Provide legal advice on the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Section 117 Mental Health Act
- Draft legal documents and undertake advocacy where required
- Advise internal stakeholders across the organisation
- Liaise with external counsel and relevant bodies
- Support team management and contribute to service delivery
- Deliver updates or training on relevant legal developments
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Legal Executive
- Strong experience in Adult Social Care law
- Experience handling Court of Protection matters
- Proven litigation experience (ideally within a local authority)
- Ability to manage a complex caseload independently
- Strong advocacy, drafting, and communication skills
- Some supervisory or management experience
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Previous local government experience
- Understanding of local authority processes and governance
