Continuous Improvement Engineer – On-site (Birmingham, UK)
Fixed-term contract, 3 months | Manufacturing (Healthcare Equipment) | 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
About the role
You will drive continuous improvement across the manufacturing operations of a specialist healthcare equipment manufacturer. It suits an engineer who enjoys finding waste and bottlenecks, and who wants to see improvements embedded and measured rather than left on a slide. The contract is for three months.
You will be on-site in Birmingham. Hours are Monday to Thursday, 8am to 5pm, and Friday, 7am to 1pm.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead and deliver improvement projects that shorten product lead times, reduce waste and increase efficiency and output
- Analyse manufacturing processes using Statistical Process Control (SPC), Pareto analysis, root cause analysis and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Develop, implement and sustain Lean methodologies, including 5S, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
- Work with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain and Engineering teams to identify, pilot and implement process improvements
- Make sure improvements are embedded, measured and maintained over the long term
What we’re looking for
- Hands-on experience delivering continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of Lean tools such as 5S, VSM, SMED and TPM
- Experience using SPC, Pareto analysis, root cause analysis and FMEA
- The ability to work with cross-functional teams and bring them with you
What you get
- Free on-site parking
- Pension contributions
- 25 days’ annual leave, rising to 28 days after five years’ continuous service
- Paid sick leave with continuous service
- An Employee Assistance Programme
- Professional development opportunities
This role suits a practical, enthusiastic improvement engineer who is comfortable with Lean tools and data, and who enjoys working across teams to make processes measurably better.
