We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and compassionate Health Care Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will join our forward thinking and inclusive practice. You will join the Nursing team and work closely with the GPs, ANPs, Practice Nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team in providing a range of patient care activities, ensuring the highest standards of care and service delivery.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to provide vital support to the medical team, assisting with a range of duties that include clinical procedures, patient care, and administrative tasks. You will work under the guidance of nurses and other healthcare professionals, focusing on tasks that free up doctors' time and improve the overall patient experience.

Key Responsibilities But Not Limited To:

  • Clinical Duties: Perform phlebotomy procedures. Conduct blood pressure monitoring and new patient health checks. Conduct the pre assessments for long-term conditions. Carry out electrocardiograms (ECG). Assist in minor surgical procedures and contraceptive coil fittings. Administer vaccinations and immunizations as per practice protocols. Carry out home visits to our vulnerable patient cohort. Support the clinical team in the management of the care homes we oversee.
  • Health Promotion: Advise patients on health care, minor ailments, health promotion, and illness prevention. Support chronic disease management clinics, including diabetes and cardiovascular health.
  • Administrative Duties: Prepare and maintain clinical rooms and equipment before, during, and after patient care activities, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients. Ensure the Emergency Medication is adequately stocked and fit for purpose. Ensure proper handling and dispatch of laboratory specimens, including blood and urine samples. Maintain accurate patient records and documentation. Ensure fridge temperatures are regularly monitored and maintained.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate in practice meetings and contribute to practice development. Support the training and mentoring of junior staff members.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential: NVQ level 2. Proficiency in phlebotomy. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be confident to deal with patients, families and carers. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, using initiative within the level of competence for the position. Commitment to patient confidentiality and data protection. Accuracy and a strong desire for attention to detail.

Desirable: NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification. Experience in chronic disease management. Training in administering immunizations and vaccinations. Familiarity with EMIS & Docman clinical system.

Experience Essential: Experience working as a Health Care Assistant in a healthcare setting.

Desirable: Experience of working in General Practice.
