Welcome to Heretaunga, the area renowned for its rich and fertile landscape that is sustained by its life-giving dews and waterways. In the Hastings District, there are three council-run indoor and outdoor pools for you to play, exercise, train and learn to swim.

As a Lifeguard with HDC, your main focus will be creating a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. From keeping a close eye on aquatic activities to managing hazards and stepping in during water rescues, you’ll play a key role in ensuring health and safety. You’ll also help make our facilities welcoming and fun, encouraging more people to join and enjoy everything we have to offer.

About you

  • Be a confident swimmer, able to swim 200m in 6 minutes or under, 50m Breaststroke (not timed), 25m sidestroke (not timed).
  • Have completed, be currently undertaking, or willing to undertake, learning in:
    • National Pool Lifeguard Award
    • First Aid
    • Pool Water Treatment certificate
    • Child Protection training
    • Austswim Teacher of swimming and water safety
  • Be a strong communicator, able to get your message across to a wide variety of people.

Aquatics Hastings facilities operate 7 days per week opening from 5:30am to 10:30pm and successful candidates will be expected to be able to work within these times, as required. This role is based primarily at Clive Pool; however, you may be required to work from other Hastings District Council sites.
