Welcome to Heretaunga, the area renowned for its rich and fertile landscape that is sustained by its life-giving dews and waterways. Hastings Art Gallery is the public art gallery of Te Matau-a-Māui Hawke’s Bay. It is uniquely positioned as a regional, non-collecting gallery that presents a lively programme of local, national, and international contemporary art.

We are seeking an Exhibitions Coordinator to lead project management, administration, and logistics of exhibitions, working closely with artists, external parties, and staff across the gallery. Reporting to the Gallery’s Director, the Exhibitions Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing freight, travel arrangements, payments, external contractor relationships, and timelines for other exhibition logistics.

This position requires an experienced museum and/or gallery professional who has excellent communication and administrative skills, sharp attention to detail, and a proven ability to effectively manage complex projects and multiple deadlines. To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A qualification in Visual Arts/Arts and/or Business Administration, and at least two years’ experience working in the art gallery or museum sector.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to work in a public gallery environment.
  • A track record of experience managing and delivering projects in a gallery and/or museum context.
  • Interest in and knowledge of the art/museum landscape in Aotearoa.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks and initiatives from conception to completion.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in financial administration.
