Taitara Mahi - Kaiwhkahaere Te Whare Toi o Heretaunga/Hastings City Art Gallery Director
Fixed-Term (until June 2027)

We are seeking an experienced Gallery Director with a strong background in the contemporary arts sector, proven curatorial expertise, and a passion for creating engaging arts experiences. You will drive operational performance across the Gallery, overseeing programme delivery, reporting and team development.

This role is responsible for the day-to-day operation of Te Whare Toi o Heretaunga/Hastings City Art Gallery. Success in this role requires exceptional organisational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a commitment to delivering innovative programmes that connect artists, audiences, and community.

Ōu wheako – about you
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification appropriate to the fields of art, gallery, museum and curatorial practice and/or minimum 5 years' experience as a gallery curator and manager or director.
  • Evidence of a curatorial practice.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori methodologies.
  • Experience in management/leadership role.
  • Experience in envisioning, designing and building programmes.
