This Regional Electrical Engineer – North will ensure safe, reliable and compliant operation of electrical systems across our Northern terminal and pipeline network. As part of the UK Engineering function, the engineer provides technical leadership to operations, maintenance and projects teams, managing risks and driving continuous improvement in electrical performance and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply electrical engineering codes and standards, managing deviations across regional assets including HV/LV systems, transformers, switchgear, motors, UPS and hazardous area equipment.
- Support and continuously improve Electrical Safety Rules in line with legislation and industry best practice.
- Maintain and ensure compliance with Electrical Design Standards and oversee the Electrical Connection Permit system.
- Act as Electrical Competent Person under Electricity at Work Regulations and review electrical Management of Change (MOC) processes, providing assurance on correct application.
- Identify and scope projects and plant modifications, preparing designs, specifications and cost estimates while supporting CAPEX planning.
- Prioritise equipment replacement based on condition data and manage vendors, tenders and technical evaluations, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
- Support commissioning activities, QA reviews and handover documentation to ensure successful project delivery.
- Work closely with maintenance teams to plan inspections, preventative maintenance and defect resolution activities.
- Provide technical troubleshooting support and lead root cause failure analysis to improve reliability and performance.
- Ensure compliance with key regulations including COMAH, DSEAR, Electricity at Work Regulations, PUWER and CDM, alongside relevant standards such as BS 7671 and BS EN 60079.
- Oversee maintenance schedules for HV/LV and ATEX systems to ensure safe, reliable and compliant operation.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation within company systems.
- Ensure all activities comply with company procedures, safety requirements and legal obligations while effectively managing time and resources in line with health and safety responsibilities.
Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have an electrical engineering degree or equivalent, with proven experience in electrical maintenance, design and project engineering within industrial or high-hazard environments.
- Knowledge of HV/LV distribution, hazardous area equipment, and experience working within COMAH or similar regulated environments is required.
- A solid understanding of BS 7671, BS EN 60079, DSEAR, Electricity at Work Regulations, PUWER and CDM is essential.
- Skills must include interpreting and developing electrical drawings, schematics and technical specifications, fault finding, root cause analysis, excellent communication and stakeholder management, and a proactive, safety-focused approach.
- Desirable experience includes CompEx certification, contractors management or mentoring engineers, and knowledge of emerging technologies.
