This role sits within Technology & Platforms, responsible for defining and maintaining the strategy and roadmap for all core technology platforms. It covers platform vision, prioritisation, planning, financial management, investment, architecture design, assurance, and the implementation of platform architecture standards. The aim is to deliver platforms that are robust, scalable, cost‑effective and aligned with the overall business strategy.

The Platform Technical Lead provides hands‑on technical leadership and governance across a defined platform estate within a strategic partner model. They are accountable for the technical integrity, resilience and operational robustness of the platform, acting as the primary technical authority between Virgin Media O² and the strategic partner responsible for build‑and‑run services. They ensure all solutions adhere to platform architecture standards, engineering guardrails and non‑functional requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assure the design, build and maintenance of technology used for enabling agents to interact with VMO2 customers, managing sales and service operations, including voice and chat capabilities.
  • Support applications for digital identity management (ID) and subscription video on demand (SVOD).
  • Manage customer communications and consent for processing personal data.
  • Design, build and maintain a microservices architecture, middleware and API gateways to enable seamless communication between software applications.
  • Conduct testing across Technology & Platforms.
  • Lead technical decisions and provide governance across the platform estate.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in commerce / sales platforms.
  • Deep experience with microservices and API‑driven architectures.
  • Hands‑on experience with full‑stack technologies, including Node.js, Next.js, Storyblok, and cloud‑native platforms such as GKE and Cloud Run.
  • Proven technical leadership across end‑to‑end delivery.
  • Experience reviewing and assuring designs, estimates and sizing.
  • Strong incident and escalation management experience.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience governing production platforms (resilience, performance, lifecycle).
  • Strong stakeholder and vendor management skills.
  • Experience in strategic partner / managed service environments (desirable).
