Transportation is a UK-based portfolio working in rail, highways and aviation, delivering programme, project and commercial management services to clients worldwide.

As a Senior Project Manager you will manage your own projects or workstreams on major transportation projects. This role supports the development of a growing and diverse business and focuses on winning and delivering high quality project and programme management services that contribute to society and improve the communities in which we live and work.

You will have opportunities to work on some of the UK's largest transportation projects, collaborating with key clients and with experts across Mott MacDonald and the industry. Areas you may work on:

  • Rail – supporting major rail infrastructure projects across the UK, including involvement with Crossrail, HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail, among others.
  • Highways – working with National Highways on a variety of UK projects.
  • Ports – covering aviation and maritime projects, with opportunities at key airports in the UK and beyond.
  • Local Authority – supporting a wide range of local authorities with transport projects covering rail, highways, sustainability and social value.

Main Duties:

  • Manage the development, design, delivery and handover of projects as instructed, ensuring governance protocols are followed.
  • Develop and maintain a project management plan for each project.
  • Define project scope in line with agreed objectives.
  • Identify and execute deliverables, achieving cost, time and quality targets with realistic action plans.
  • Coordinate with H&S & CDM representatives to ensure health and safety compliance matters are addressed.
  • Establish effective stakeholder and communication management across project, client and stakeholder teams, including liaison with statutory and technical assurance bodies.
  • Collaborate with commercial, procurement and project control functions to deliver projects within agreed parameters.
  • Assess resources and competency within supply chains and take necessary actions to ensure performance.
  • Administer NEC contracts for professional and contractor commissions to achieve contractible outcomes.

Candidate Specification:

  • Experience working on large transport infrastructure projects.
  • Membership of the APM.
  • Chartered status or working towards it.
  • Experience of managing NEC contracts.
  • Extensive project management expertise across a range of disciplines, contract routes and sectors.
  • Experience leading large project teams to successful outcomes.
  • Strong commercial acumen with knowledge of planning and project controls.
  • Ability to operate autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, colleagues and supply chains.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work; willingness to travel to client sites and MM offices.
  • NEC accreditation (3 or 4).
  • Experience with Network Rail, National Highways or similar UK organisations.
  • Line management or team leadership experience.
