Rebuilding your life after sentencing is one of the toughest challenges a person can face. But with the right support, it's possible. That's where you come in.
About the Role
You will support a caseload of service users that may be in custody, due to be released from prison, recently released from prison, serving a suspended sentence, or on community orders. Based out of local probation offices and within the prison, you will be meeting with service users to support them with all aspects of their personal wellbeing such as accessing healthcare providers, attending appointments and accessing social groups. You will work collaboratively with Personal Wellbeing advisors, probation, and other external services to support them on their journey.
What You'll Be Doing
- Community-based/custody based support: guide individuals as per their action plan, to help them prepare for release or reintegrate into the community. This could be through practical wellbeing activities, mental health support, GP and dentist registration, or accessing food and clothing.
- Respond to individual needs, being proactive and tailoring support accordingly.
- Collaboration: Your intervention may be part of a wider support package so collaborating with internal and external colleagues is a key part of the role.
- Caseload management: manage multiple individuals, balancing their needs while keeping up with all the related admin. Case-conference with advisors regularly.
- Quality recording: keep thorough, up-to-date records of all work on our IT systems, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks and progress is properly tracked.
- Community outreach, group & 121 delivery: deliver wellbeing support in various settings, either through tailored support sessions, out and about in the community, or utilizing set interventions and learning materials. This role will be based in custody 3 days a week and community based 2 days per week.
What We're Looking For
- Relationship building: connect with people at all levels, building relationships with Service Users in a genuine, non-judgmental way, while paying particular attention to confidentiality and boundaries. Engage key stakeholders within Probation and external agencies to build a network of support services for Service Users.
- IT and administrative skills: keep meticulous records of every interaction to measure client progress and ensure effective interventions.
- Organisation: handle a busy caseload and stay on top of detailed records.
- Resilience: this role can be challenging, and results may take time, but you stay committed and see things through.
- Flexibility: be comfortable with change as referral flows change frequently.
Whilst we welcome applications from those with lived experience, this role requires an enhanced DBS check and HMPPS EL1 vetting. Due to the time required to complete these checks, successful candidates will be offered a start date at least 6 weeks from the point of job offer. This should allow sufficient time for all necessary pre-employment clearances to be obtained.
