Responsibilities:
- Preparing and reviewing designs for schemes to ensure they are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards.
- Lead development of process design deliverables such as process models, mass balances, and control philosophies.
- Analyse site performance, identify risks, and develop mitigation measures.
- Challenge process selection and delivery effectiveness to provide the best value solutions.
- Identify opportunities for innovation that align with whole-life cost and net‑zero drivers.
- Produce and review technical specifications and schedules for procurement activities, and evaluate supplier tender bids and technical submissions.
- Apply and contribute to design standards with a good knowledge of client and industry standards.
- Challenge client specifications appropriately and present and defend solutions to complex problems.
- Improve delivery processes, including development and implementation of standard designs, sustainable solutions and digital tools.
- Act as a technical checker on project documents and undertake technical reviews for projects across teams.
- Manage interfaces and integration of the design with other disciplines and produce documentation.
- Collaborate with commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions.
- Supervise and mentor graduates and engineers, assisting them to develop knowledge and skills.
- Engage positively with clients, manage relationships and adopt a one‑team approach to support their aims.
- Undertake site reviews to ensure buildability and integration within existing systems.
Candidate Specification:
- Chemical Engineering or relevant Process Engineering degree (or related field).
- Working towards Chartered or Incorporated membership of a professional institution (e.g., ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience.
- Experience with water and/or wastewater unit processes and treatment plant, including process design for wastewater projects.
- Experience of HAZOP studies as chair or team member is advantageous.
