Role Overview

The Claims Handling Department provides an outsourced managed claims service for leading professional indemnity insurers. The team adjusts claims made against professionals on behalf of leading insurers, acting under delegated authority levels for pre-litigated matters from first notification of loss to resolution. The department provides significant value to the wider RPC law firm through referrals and is an important aspect of the firm’s insurance business and future strategy. The team is based in RPC’s Bristol office at Bridgewater House, and this role will be based in Bristol.

The role

We have an opportunity for a Claims Handling Administration Apprentice to join a growing team that handles claims made against professionals on an outsourced basis. Working with the Claims Handling Administration Manager, Team Leaders and other team members, you will provide technical and efficient administration support to the Claims Handling department. You will help build and shape the team for the future, embed principles of lean and efficient working, and establish the culture, values and behaviours that support a varied legal career.

Responsibilities

  • Open new matters and input data into the claims management system
  • Send acknowledgements
  • Carry out conflict searches
  • Assist with diary management
  • Ensure all basic administrative tasks are completed accurately and timely, such as filing, scanning, making/receiving telephone calls and dealing with enquiries
  • Handle financial matters, including arranging and processing payments, dealing with billing and accounts queries, and recording and updating financial information
  • Capture and collate required management information (MI) for performance management, client reporting and service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Liaise with insurers and brokers to request full policy information
  • Ensure policies, proposal forms and schedules are properly filed
  • Manage centralised mailboxes
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 6 GCSE grades A‑C or 9‑4 including Maths and English
  • Attention to detail, organized and efficient
  • Hardworking, enthusiastic and motivated
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to handle any tasks needed to meet team aims
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
