How the Firm Is Organised
- Assurance & Advisory Department – works with owner-managed companies, property management companies, charities & not-for-profit organisations, pension funds and clubs. Services include audits, independent examinations, statutory accounts, corporation tax, management accounts, bookkeeping, VAT and payroll. Also consultancy, cloud accounting and corporate finance support. Trainees are assigned to a team from day one but may work across teams to gain broad experience.
- Private Client Department – supporting individuals, directors and partnerships with tax compliance and planning. Both departments collaborate closely.

The Training Programme
Myers Clark is a registered ICAEW training office. Trainees work toward the ICAEW ACA qualification – now updated to the new Next Generation ACA syllabus. The ACA remains one of the most advanced business, finance and accountancy qualifications. The new syllabus emphasises three core themes: Sustainability, Technology and Ethics. The syllabus will be fully phased in between 2025–2027, beginning with Certificate Level in September 2025, Professional Level from March 2026, and Advanced Level from July 2027.
Exam Funding and Study Commitment
All study courses & materials, block-release study leave, exam days & fees, and travel costs to/from college and exams are funded by the firm. Students must commit to 15–20 hours of weekly study outside work.
Certificate Level – 2025 onwards
- Six core exam modules, with new modules: Sustainability & Ethics – replaces Ethics programme and Business Technology & Finance.
- Business Insight & Performance – replaces Management Information and incorporates elements of BTF.
- Other modules renamed or updated: Accounting Fundamentals, Assurance & Risk Fundamentals, Business Law, Tax Fundamentals. Certificate Level continues as ICAEW CFAB qualification.
Professional Level – 2026 onwards
- Introduction of Fundamental Case Study (replacing Business Planning: Taxation options).
- Modules streamlined, modernised and aligned with Specialised Learning and Development.
Advanced Level – 2027 onwards
- Reduction from three exams to two.
- Introduction of enhanced case study-based assessment.
Specialised Learning & Development
A new element supporting early career specialisation and advanced skills.
Practical Training
By the end of their programme trainees gain experience in:
- Audit
- Statutory accounts
- Corporation tax
Additional opportunities include group accounts, outsourced services, management accounts & advisory. Progression is reviewed every six months with pay adjustments linked to skills achieved.
Ethics & Professional Development
The new syllabus embeds sustainability, technology and ethics across exams and practical experience. Trainees continue to attend ethics sessions twice a year, strengthening judgement, decision-making and communication skills.
Support, Development & Assessment
A dedicated buddy for the first four months. A mentor providing regular check-ins and weekly 121s. Formal six-monthly reviews. Bi-annual meetings with the authorised ICAEW QPRT. A supportive peer network of current trainees and seniors.
Working Hours
Standard hours: 9:00–5:30, Monday–Friday, with a one-hour lunch break. Additional hours when required for client commitments are compensated via paid overtime or TOIL. Post-probation flexibility (all require line-manager approval): Hybrid working (manager approval required). Flexitime with start times between 8:00–9:30 and finish times from 4:30–6:00. Breaks of 30 or 60 minutes between; 11:30–2:30 not at the start or end of the day. Staff must keep calendars updated with work location, hours and approved break times.
Salary & Benefits
Competitive salary, reviewed every six months during the trainee programme. 4% matched pension contribution. 4 weeks’ annual leave plus three Christmas closure days (23 days total) and bank holidays. ICAEW annual student membership fees covered. Excess travel expenses reimbursed. Optional non-contributory health insurance.
