You will act as the technical authority for the backend and AWS platform, providing peer review and architectural guidance.
Key Responsibilities

- Translate business objectives and product requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions.
- Remove delivery roadblocks and coach engineers on engineering best practices, coding standards, and system design.
- Partner closely with the Mobile Tech Lead (React Native), setting technical direction collaboratively while avoiding duplication of responsibilities.
- Drive and champion the use of AI-assisted development tools to materially increase development speed, code quality, and team productivity.
- Maintain high standards for automated testing, CI/CD, reliability, and operational excellence across backend and mobile teams.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience as a Software Development Manager, Head of Software, or Senior Engineering Manager in a hands-on role.
- Strong technical background with TypeScript, plus at least one additional backend language (e.g. Go, Rust, C#).
- Strong experience designing and building cloud-native backend systems, including performance and cost trade-offs.
- Hands-on AWS experience, ideally using Terraform for infrastructure as code.
- Proven experience line-managing backend and/or mobile engineers within agile environments.
- Demonstrated ability to translate product and business requirements into robust technical architectures.
- Strong experience with Git-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. CircleCI).
- Expert-level experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest and/or Vitest.
- Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres, DynamoDB, and Redis.
- Ideally proven experience integrating third-party APIs in the energy flexibility domain (e.g. demand response and grid services).
- Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills, including network-level analysis (e.g. Wireshark).
- Experience with AWS IoT core and MQTT is desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working in distributed, multinational teams.
Desirable
- Experience in the energy sector, particularly energy flexibility, demand response, or grid-interfacing systems.

- Experience with similar smart home devices, vehicle charge points, solar diverters, etc.
