About MyCarbon

MyCarbon is a specialist carbon and sustainability consultancy supporting organisations with carbon accounting, regulatory compliance, governance and net zero delivery. We work with complex organisations where credibility, technical rigour, and delivery quality matter.

We are now hiring a Business Development Lead (New Business) to accelerate growth, open new client relationships, and help build a scalable new‑business engine alongside the founders. This is a hands‑on, high‑ownership role with clear progression for the right person.

The Role

Your primary focus is winning new business. You will proactively identify, engage, and convert new clients, selling MyCarbon’s services through well‑scoped packages, retained programmes, and multi‑year engagements. You’ll work closely with the directors, who will support later‑stage discovery and closing where helpful, but you’ll be trusted to take real ownership of the sales process. Alongside new business, you’ll support account expansion with existing clients and help improve how MyCarbon approaches sales more broadly as the business grows.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Proactively prospecting and opening doors with new organisations (heavy outbound expected)
  • Engaging senior decision‑makers, including CFOs and Sustainability leaders
  • Running discovery conversations and qualifying opportunities
  • Shaping client needs into clearly defined MyCarbon service offerings
  • Managing opportunities from first contact through to signed agreement
  • Maintaining accurate pipeline and deal data in HubSpot
  • Identifying upsell and expansion opportunities with existing clients
  • Building partnerships with decarbonisation suppliers
  • Feeding market insight back into service positioning and sales messaging
  • Contributing to the evolution of MyCarbon’s sales processes and tools

Who We’re Looking For

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Is commercially driven and motivated by winning new business
  • Enjoys proactive outreach and is comfortable opening doors
  • Can sell consultative, service‑based solutions rather than commodities
  • Wants real responsibility, visibility, and progression
  • Is organised, credible, and accountable for outcomes

Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Proven B2B sales or business development experience
  • Confidence engaging senior stakeholders
  • Strong discovery, qualification, and commercial judgement skills
  • Comfortable managing deals end‑to‑end
  • Experience using CRM tools (HubSpot preferred)

Desirable

  • Experience selling into manufacturing, logistics, transport, or industrial sectors
  • Exposure to sustainability, ESG, carbon, energy, or compliance‑led services
  • Experience selling packages, retainers, or multi‑year engagements
  • A network to engage with to hit the ground running

Package & Progression

  • £40,000–£45,000 base salary (depending on experience)
  • Uncapped commission on new and expansion business
  • Clear progression path toward a senior commercial or Head of Business Development role
  • Close working relationship with experienced founders
  • Opportunity to shape how a growing consultancy sells and scales

Why Join MyCarbon?

  • Genuine ownership and influence over growth
  • Clear expectations and fair incentives
  • No commission games or low‑quality sales pressure
  • Meaningful work helping organisations tackle real sustainability challenges
  • A platform to grow into a senior commercial leadership role

Application Process

  • Stage 1: CV and Quick Fire Question Answer emailed to Your name and job role as the subject line
  • Answer the following questions, 200 words max
  • “Describe a deal you personally originated and closed. What was sold, to whom, and how did it start?”
  • “Why does this role make sense for you now?”
  • “How do you feel about outbound prospecting?”
  • Stage 2: 15 minute - vibe check - quick video call with a director from MyCarbon
  • Stage 3: Task
  • Stage 4: Final 60 minute interview
