MTICBIAI (My Trauma Is Chronic, But I Am Iconic!!
C.) is a lived experience-led organisation supporting care and justice experienced young people to move from survival to thriving.
We deliver trauma-informed programmes that build confidence, independence, wellbeing and social connection through meaningful relationships and practical support.
The Thrive Programme is a 12-week group intervention designed to help young people develop life skills, improve wellbeing and build positive peer networks.
Purpose of the Role
The Peer Support Worker plays a key role in creating a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for participants attending the Thrive Programme.
Using their lived experience appropriately and professionally, they will encourage engagement, provide peer mentoring and support participants throughout programme activities.
Working alongside the Lead Facilitator, the Peer Support Worker will help deliver sessions, promote wellbeing and contribute to a positive, trauma-informed experience for every participant.
Key Responsibilities
- Participant Support
- Build positive and trusting relationships with participants.
- Welcome participants and help them settle into each session.
- Encourage participation and engagement throughout activities.
- Provide peer mentoring and emotional encouragement where appropriate.
- Promote confidence, independence and resilience.
- Identify participants who may require additional support and inform the Lead Facilitator.
- Assist with the delivery of weekly Thrive sessions.
- Support practical activities, workshops and social opportunities.
- Help prepare resources and set up venues before sessions.
- Assist with clearing away equipment at the end of each session.
- Support attendance recording and participant feedback collection.
- Safeguarding and Wellbeing
- Promote a safe, inclusive and trauma-informed environment.
- Maintain professional boundaries at all times.
- Follow MTICBIAI safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection policies.
- Report safeguarding concerns immediately to the Lead Facilitator.
- Contribute to creating psychologically safe group spaces.
- Team Working
- Work collaboratively with facilitators, volunteers and partner organisations.
- Attend team briefings and debriefs.
- Share observations that may improve participant engagement.
- Positively represent MTICBIAI within the community.
Person Specification
- Lived experience that enables genuine peer support and empathy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with young people.

- Willingness to complete safeguarding training.

- Mental Health First Aid or safeguarding training (or willingness to complete).
