As an IKEA Crèche Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional customer service and caring for children in our crèche facility. You will work closely with the Crèche Manager and other team members to ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for all children attending the crèche. This role requires excellent communication skills, a passion for working with children, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.

To be familiar with and act according to safeguarding guidelines as set down by the local safeguarding board or Social Services. Deliver and uphold the company’s Vision and Mission on an ongoing basis. To observe and report any Health and Safety issues to the relevant persons. Ensure the safety, security and well-being of all children attending the setting. Work in collaboration with the Crèche Manager and Store team to drive visitation to the store and crèche.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Customer Service
    • Greet parents and children warmly upon arrival and departure.
    • Provide excellent customer service by addressing any enquiries, concerns, or requests from parents in a prompt and professional manner.
    • Maintain a positive and welcoming atmosphere in the crèche and around the store at all times.
    • Plan and provide opportunities for in-store activities, as well as meeting and greeting families to encourage and promote the crèche services.
  • Care
    • Supervise and interact with children in the crèche, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
    • Engage children in age-appropriate activities and play to stimulate their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
    • Assist with toileting if required using provided PPE.
    • Monitor children's behaviour and intervene when necessary, reinforcing positive behaviour.
  • Collaboration
    • Work collaboratively with the Crèche Manager, designated Key workers and other colleagues to plan and implement daily activities and support with in-store events when required.
    • Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure smooth transitions and continuity of care for children, especially at shift/lunch handover times.
    • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay informed about company policies, procedures, and best practices.
    • Be a reliable member of the team, working cooperatively and with flexibility.
    • Support the Manager in communicating all marketing material for events through notice boards, announcements, newsletters etc.
    • Potential to step up as a Key Worker when required.
    • Maintain a high standard of personal appearance and professional conduct at all times.
  • Health and Safety
    • Ensure the highest standards of safety and security within the setting, to prevent accidents and injuries.
    • Follow proper hygiene practices, including handwashing and sanitising, to minimise the spread of germs and illnesses.
    • Be compliant with emergency procedures with regards to company and client policy and procedures.
    • Support and complete when required the Opening and Closing Checklists for the crèche.
  • Documentation
    • Keep accurate records of children's attendance, safeguarding concerns, accidents, or incidents as per company procedure.
    • Complete required documentation, such as incident reports and daily logs, in a timely and thorough manner.
    • Ensure that ALL sensitive data is kept secure in a locked cabinet, and then shredded once successfully uploaded to the company’s online system.
  • Other Duties
    • The post may require flexible working hours including working some weekends and assisting at other sites.
    • Colleagues must be able to deal with operational issues in the absence of the Manager.
    • You may be required to perform other duties than those listed in the job description to meet the operational needs of the business.

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience of working with children aged 3 months to 5 years
