We’re looking for an Employment Solicitor to join our growing team at My Law Solicitors in Wakefield. This is a hands-on, client-facing role working across employment law matters, with a strong focus on advising on Settlement Agreements and delivering clear, practical advice to clients.
We are a small, specialist employment law firm. We are deliberately not a “rat race” workplace — we focus on delivering high-quality legal work in a calm, professional environment, with realistic workloads and strong client care. Our team leaves on time, supports one another, and works in an environment where expectations are clear and manageable.
This role would suit someone who enjoys client-facing work, is confident handling matters independently, and is looking for a more balanced and focused alternative to larger firms.
The Role
This role is centred around advising on Settlement Agreements, including speaking directly with clients (video / face-to-face), reviewing agreements, and liaising with employers to progress matters efficiently. You will be expected to take ownership of your work, manage client relationships, and deliver clear, practical advice in a timely manner. You will work closely with Leah (Employment Solicitor), with support available where needed — but this role is suited to someone who is comfortable contributing from an early stage and handling matters with a good degree of independence.
We operate with structured, manageable caseloads and a clear focus on quality and client care. We are not driven by aggressive billing targets or volume-based pressure. This is a permanent, office-based role in Wakefield (parking included). Full-time is preferred, although part-time will be considered for the right candidate.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Advising clients on Settlement Agreements, including explaining key terms and implications clearly.
- Liaising with employers (or their solicitors) to progress and conclude matters.
- Managing your own caseload of matters efficiently from start to finish.
- Advising on general employment law issues (e.g. unfair dismissal, discrimination, grievances).
- Drafting correspondence, documents, and written advice.
- Supporting on matters that may progress towards settlement or tribunal.
- Delivering a high standard of client care and maintaining strong client relationships.
About You
- Is a qualified Solicitor (England & Wales).
- Has experience in employment law or has developed transferable skills from a similar advisory role.
- Is confident speaking with clients and able to explain legal concepts clearly and practically.
- Is organised, efficient, and comfortable managing their own workload.
- Can take ownership of matters and work with a good degree of independence.
- Has strong communication and client care skills.
- Is looking for a long-term role in a small, focused team.
- Is comfortable working in an office-based environment.
- Can reliably commute to Wakefield (parking provided).
This role would particularly suit someone currently in a larger firm who is looking for a more balanced, structured, and client-focused working environment.
What We Offer
- Salary £50,000 – £60,000 (DOE).
- Bonus scheme.
- Parking at our Wakefield office.
- 25 days’ holiday plus statutory bank holidays.
- Christmas closure.
- Company pension.
- Flexitime.
- A supportive and professional working environment.
- The opportunity to play a key role in a growing specialist firm.
