The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in surgical and administrative duties and performing ophthalmic diagnostic testing. A customer-facing role for someone who must possess the patience and determination to provide a positive empathetic experience for our patient\’s by working with them to ensure all their needs are consistently met.
The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail with strong communication skills, who must be able to independently manage their workload and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
Main Duties/ Responsibilities
· Carrying out ophthalmic tests
· Under the indirect supervision of senior staff, the post holder will deliver a high standard of patient care when carrying out various diagnostic eye scans and vision assessments.
· Take responsibility for the care, usage, maintenance and cleaning of Specialist Ophthalmic equipment and preparation of consulting rooms – pre and post clinic.
· To undertake administrative and clerical duties as required. This will include inputting data using computer systems and the clinic’s electronic patient record system working at all times within information governance confidentiality standards
· Assist patient with their mobility in order that tests and examinations can be carried out
· Following agreed protocols and guidelines participate in the pre-operative assessment of ophthalmic patients.
Equipment
Be competent in testing patients with modern ophthalmic diagnostic equipment including but not limited to:
· iCare tonometer
· log MAR and Snellen Visual acuity Chart
· Biometry – IOL Master
· OCT scans & Fundus photography
· Corneal Topographer and tomographer
· Visual fields
Be capable of learning to use new equipment and upgrades safely and competently within a reasonable period of relevant training.
Skills and experience – Essential
Extensive experience in an Ophthalmology setting (e.g hospital/ optician)
Completion of ophthalmic competencies including installation of eye drops, pre-operative assessment and specialist equipment
Experience of dealing with members of the public
Understands the importance of confidentiality.
Working knowledge of ophthalmic conditions / equipment and techniques
High levels of accuracy and excellent hand-eye coordination
Ability to deal with difficult situations
Excellent computer skills and problem-solving abilities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong customer focus
Attention to detail
