We are seeking an experienced Café Cook & Till Operator to join our student-focused café. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on cooking experience in a café or commercial kitchen, be confident preparing fast, high-volume café meals, and be comfortable operating the till while delivering friendly and efficient service to a diverse student customer base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cooking & Food Preparation (Primary Focus)
  • Prepare, cook, and plate café menu items efficiently during peak student hours.
  • Work confidently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining food quality.
  • Follow established recipes while ensuring consistency, taste, and presentation.
  • Operate grill, fryer, sandwich press, and other basic kitchen equipment safely.
  • Perform food preparation tasks including chopping, portioning, marinating, and batch cooking.
  • Monitor food quality, portion control, and cooking times during busy service periods.
  • Ensure correct food storage, labelling, and stock rotation (FIFO).
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety at all times.
  • Assist with daily specials, prep planning, and stock control.
  • Till Operation & Customer Service
    • Operate the cash register accurately during busy rush periods.
    • Process cash, EFTPOS, and online orders efficiently.
    • Take customer orders clearly and communicate effectively with the kitchen.
    • Provide friendly, fast, and professional service suited to a student environment.
  • General Duties
    • Assist with opening and closing kitchen procedures.
    • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, service, and dining areas.
    • Work cooperatively with café staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
