Nixor are looking for a Senior Solution Architect to take ownership of one of our clients' largest, longest-running technology programs in the pensions & investments business. Over the last 10 years, a huge pensions change program has delivered a complex estate, built by approximately 100 engineers, testers and technologists. The program is now formally “finished”, but the architecture it left behind is already starting to age. There is currently no clear technical owner to evolve, modernise and simplify this landscape.
We need a senior architect who can:
- Own the architecture for the end-to-end pensions platform
- Lead and mentor a small team of 3 Solution Architects
- Dig into the existing estate, understand how everything fits together, and then design and drive a target architecture and operating model that meets today’s and tomorrow’s business goals
Working closely with business stakeholders to understand their goals, ambitions, and constraints, translating them into a forward-looking architectural strategy. The organisation is looking for someone who can confidently step in, challenge what currently exists, and bring a fresh perspective on how the new estate should be structured—aligned to modern operating models, enterprise standards, and best-in-class architectural practices. Leading a team of three Solution Architects, you’ll set direction, raise standards, and ensure architectural coherence across the pension platforms.
Although this is a senior leadership role, it isn’t purely high-level: you will remain hands-on enough to understand integrations, data flows, and component-level design, ensuring solutions are well-engineered, well-documented, and fit for the future.
What You’ll Do
- Become the architecture owner for a business-critical pensions estate
- Review and interpret existing documentation produced across a decade-long program
- Uncover the true state of the current estate by examining integrations, interfaces, and system dependencies
- Work with business leaders to define goals and shape a modern target architecture and roadmap
- Introduce improved structure, standards, and governance, establishing a clear architectural operating model
- Bring new ideas, challenge legacy thinking, and modernise the environment with enterprise-grade solutions
- Lead, mentor, and oversee a team of three Solution Architects
About You
You’ll be a seasoned architect with a track record of success in large-scale, long-running transformation programmes. You enjoy complexity and can confidently navigate environments with deep legacy, unclear documentation, or multi-team historical ownership. This is an excellent role for someone who is interested in joining a newly established Architectural practice, where you can make a real impact toward the beginning of a transformation.
