Overview

We are looking to strengthen our Engineering team in the @one Alliance with a Lead Infrastructure Engineer based at Peterborough or a suitable Anglian regional office with hybrid working available.

You will report directly to the Senior Design Manager and your role will provide civil and pipeline engineering technical reviews, guidance and inputs to both clean water and water recycling infrastructure projects. You will provide design support for numerous infrastructure schemes and will ensure all designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards.

You will have dual lines of reporting into both the programme area Senior Design Manager (Engineering) and the Principal Infrastructure Engineer. You will provide support to the engineering delivery teams by undertaking review and acceptance of key project deliverables (PCI; drawings / models; calculations) across an entire programme area for infrastructure (pipeline) related work. The role includes providing technical expertise in either clean or wastewater pipeline engineering design. You will also work with the principal infrastructure engineer to maintain engineering standards across all the @one alliance whilst working on continuous business improvement and innovation. You will be mentoring more junior engineers in the team. The role of the lead infrastructure engineer is not to be assigned to deliver individual named projects but provide technical leadership and support in the delivery of all projects within a programme area.

Within the role you will also be looking to develop innovative methods where applicable. Encouraging and developing engineers to identify potential designs (both innovative and existing) that can be used as a ‘standard product’ to promote both self-learning, and design appreciation; and that can potentially be used by the wider business to promote efficiency and highlight the significant benefits of collaboration.

In the role you will work in collaboration with other stakeholders throughout the business to drive continuous developments in engineering, design, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Regularly report to the Principal Engineer.
  • Collaborate with Principal Engineer, Design Managers and Technical managers to acquire upcoming project milestones and drawing review dates.
  • Review all drawings to ensure @one quality, safety, and technical standards are adhered to.
  • Review all project design calculations and ensure they have been completed by all project teams.
  • Liaise with Assurance Lead Engineers at all key project milestones.
  • Review construction site design queries and change requests to ensure quick but accurate responses and/or the design remains suitable.
  • Lead and coordinate key milestone design review meetings with Infrastructure Engineers and Technical Managers.
  • Attend and input into CDM and commissioning strategy meetings.
  • Update and collaborate with the Principal Engineer and Design Managers where potential improvements can be implemented.
  • Collaborate with CAD Managers/Design Managers/Principal Engineer on drawing/model processes and outputs.
  • Understand and implement the hierarchy in risk management in design and be familiar with design.
  • Undertake site visits when appropriate.
  • Liaise with other departments and project teams with respect to design requirements.
  • Ensure own project workload is completed to the correct standards and specifications.
  • Manage quality through the BIM360 workflow review in line with the project timeline.
  • Support other leads and discipline engineers to deliver their engineering outputs to time and quality standards.

To join us on our exciting and challenging journey for engineering excellence, you will preferably (but not essentially) be educated to degree level in water/wastewater engineering or a related subject. Ideally you have a proven track record of operating as a technical expert in the design of potable and wastewater pipelines quality assurance and risk management, including familiarity with design software processes.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a senior discipline engineer.
  • Significant experience in relevant engineering discipline.
  • Detailed technical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of inter-related engineering disciplines.
  • Proven ability to design and administer projects.
  • Construction experience.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Proven problem‑solving capability.
  • Good understanding of pipe materials and applications.
  • Good mechanical, civil, and hydraulic knowledge and able to develop solutions from first principles.
  • Good understanding of construction team interface and coordination.
  • Significant design experience of sewerage systems, trunk water mains & pressurised and gravity sewerage systems.
