We are looking to strengthen our Engineering team with a Structural Engineer at Engineer, Senior or Principal level, based at Hattersley or within any of our UK regions, with hybrid working available. Working in a leading Design and Build environment offers highly dynamic and challenging design opportunities. You can see your designs come to life quickly, which can be highly rewarding. Operating nationally, the variety of design challenges from a business covering 9 water frameworks is ideal for someone who thrives on unique challenges and exciting projects. You will report directly to the Structures Lead (Hattersley). Your role will provide high-quality Engineering Design services to help the company minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. This involves coordinating the design and producing Structural design documents and drawings, considering health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards related to the contract.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Producing structural design calculations for all aspects of Water Treatment and Sewage Treatment plants, including new builds and modifications.
  • Reviewing structural content of construction drawings/models.
  • Reviewing subcontract design proposals, ensuring work is considered for buildability, standardization, DfMA, and safety on site, complying with CDM regulations.
  • Designing reinforced concrete and steelwork in accordance with relevant Eurocodes and British Standards.
  • Coordinating and liaising within a multi-discipline organization, including construction oversight and site support.
  • Following procedures and processes to ensure the ongoing development of the discipline.
  • Planning resources and taking responsibility for project delivery within budget and schedule.
  • Coordinating designs with other disciplines and managing internal and external resources.
  • Supporting civil design staff and helping develop junior staff.
  • Ensuring designs consider environmental issues.
  • Assisting in improving processes and procedures.
  • Collaborating with our extended team in Pune, India.

Essential requirements:

  • Strong structural engineering design background, including technical detailing for Water and Sewage Treatment Projects.
  • Proven track record in structural engineering within the water sector.
  • Good knowledge of structural analysis and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and design software such as StaadPro and Tekla TEDDS.
  • Degree qualification in Civil and/or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • Experience in designing water-retaining structures to standard using Eurocodes.
  • Good understanding of CDM and construction Health & Safety regulations.

Desirable skills:

  • Chartered or nearing chartership.
  • Experience working for a global organization.
  • Experience working with remote/dispersed teams.
  • Experience in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Industry.
  • Knowledge of BIM procedures and techniques.
  • Broader structural design experience across the construction industry.
  • Experience in outline and tender structural design.
