MWH Treatment is looking to strengthen our SHEQ team with a Health and Safety Advisor supporting our water projects across the North West.


Reporting directly to the Senior SHEQ Advisor, you will provide practical health and safety advice, assurance and coaching to project and operational teams, helping them manage risk, meet legal and company requirements, and continually improve performance.


Key responsibilities will include:



  • Understand and apply our approach to managing health and safety risk and delivering best-in-class performance.

  • Provide practical advice and support to managers, supervisors, project teams and the workforce on health and safety legislation, company procedures and good practice.

  • Monitor corrective actions through to timely close-out and verify that the actions taken are effective and deliver sustained improvement.

  • Plan and undertake site inspections, audits and health and safety assurance visits, clearly reporting findings and agreeing proportionate actions with project teams.

  • Lead or support accident, incident and near-miss investigations using appropriate root-cause analysis, communicate lessons learned and confirm the effectiveness of resulting actions.

  • Integrate with wider project teams to understand day-to-day challenges, influence planning and support risk elimination and effective control.

  • Work collaboratively with clients, designers, the supply chain and other stakeholders to improve health and safety performance.

  • Support health and safety throughout the project lifecycle, including design, planning, construction, commissioning and handover.

  • Review high risk activity risk assessments, method statements and project health and safety documentation, identifying opportunities for safer and more sustainable solutions.

  • Analyse health and safety performance data, identify trends and provide clear reports and recommendations to support improvement.

  • Support the maintenance and continual improvement of our externally certified management systems, including ISO 45001.


Technical Competencies:


Working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, HSE guidance and relevant construction standards.Experience of health and safety management systems, including ISO 45001, and risk-based audit and assurance processes.Competence in incident investigation, risk assessment, data analysis, report writing and trend identification.

Essential:


Ability and willingness to travel regularly across the North West region and attend project sites as required.At least four years' relevant experience in a health and safety role within construction, utilities or a comparable high-risk environment.NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate or an equivalent recognised health and safety qualification as a minimum.Technical membership of IOSH (TechIOSH), or eligibility and commitment to achieve this, with evidence of ongoing continuing professional development.Strong practical experience of construction health and safety management, including inspections, audits, risk assessment and workforce engagement.Sound understanding of ISO 45001 and its application within an integrated management system.


Desirable:


Experience within the water or wastewater sector.Recognised incident investigation or root-cause analysis training.Internal or lead auditor training.CSCS card and EUSR SHEA Water card.Awareness of temporary works and environmental and quality management requirements.
