A respected and growing Lloyd\'s Managing Agency is seeking a skilled Construction Underwriter to join their expanding team in the Essex office. This role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic underwriting environment, focusing on complex construction risks and helping expand the agency\'s market presence.


Role Purpose:
To underwrite construction insurance policies, evaluating and managing risks in line with company underwriting guidelines and contributing to the growth of the construction portfolio.


Main Duties:

  1. Underwriting new and renewal construction risks, including builders\' risk, liability, and contractors\' all-risk policies.
  2. Assessing and pricing risks by analysing application information, reviewing documentation, and applying underwriting criteria.
  3. Developing and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients to drive business growth and retention.
  4. Collaborating with other departments, such as claims and loss control, to ensure effective risk management.
  5. Staying up to date on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and market conditions impacting the construction sector.
  6. Supporting senior underwriters and management in creating and implementing underwriting strategies.

Essential Skills Required:

  1. Previous experience underwriting construction or related lines within the insurance industry.
  2. Strong analytical skills and an ability to assess and price complex construction risks.
  3. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a client-focused approach.
  4. Detailed understanding of construction insurance products and market dynamics.

Desirable Skills:

  1. Relevant industry qualifications (e.g., CII) are advantageous.
  2. Familiarity with Lloyd\'s underwriting processes and platforms.
