The Engagement Editor works closely with the Editor to define and execute a brand growth strategy, managing the overall content pipeline and driving audience engagement through SEO, newsletters, social media, and high-impact projects such as the Startups 100 Index. The role acts as the critical link between the content creation team and our UK small-business audiences, maximising interaction, loyalty, and referral traffic across all digital channels and ensuring that content moves readers toward exploring the products and services we recommend.

The Engagement Editor collaborates with the Editor and Content Manager to maintain a clear, month-to-month content pipeline aligned with brand targets. The role also seeks to reduce reliance on SEO, build reputation, and boost commercial performance onsite and offsite. Working with external partners and internal teams, the editor supports and elevates the brand with exceptional organisational, communication and project-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Editor to devise a brand strategy and set a clear roadmap of initiatives to drive traffic and brand growth balanced with commercial targets.
  • Action and report on key initiatives (e.g. Startups 100 Index), coordinating with stakeholders across the business.
  • Balance commercial and brand-building activities, elevating the brand’s reputation, expanding to new channels, and sustaining existing reach.
  • Collaborate with the Editor and Content Manager to provide support and feedback to the Content Producer and Writer, using data from keyword and traffic tools to promote editorial excellence.
  • Commission onsite and offsite content with high strategic value to improve SEO ranking and expand reach and revenue.
  • Help the Content Manager proof, review and edit content where needed.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to deliver identified tests, measure results, ensure best practice, and implement technical improvements.
  • Make decisions toward execution of the brand strategy in the Editor’s absence.
  • Maintain smooth operations and monitor site revenue performance when the Editor is out of office.

Ideal MVFer

  • Proven experience in a digital editorial, audience or engagement role, ideally within a business or finance publication.
  • Excellent understanding of organic search and other key audience-driving channels and ability to identify and report on key metrics that illustrate strong brand performance.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency using tools like Google Analytics and CMS data to drive content decisions.
  • Good knowledge of email marketing platforms and A/B testing methodology.
  • Excellent copywriting and headline-writing skills, with a strong grasp of tone for the UK small-business and startup market.
  • Deep understanding of many content types (product reviews, how-to guides, topical, features, trends, etc.) and the ability to create clear briefs that deliver high-quality results.
  • Commercial and creative mindset able to problem-solve, pivot and seek out opportunities.
  • Experience of handling several concurrent projects and working collaboratively across multiple departments, keeping all stakeholders informed.
