MuWave is seeking a motivated RF / Microwave Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting‑edge high‑power microwave technologies and support projects ranging from power beaming and transmission system design through to vacuum tube design and development.
Salary: £40,000 - £75,000 dependent on experience and meeting of desirable skills.
About us and our projects
MuWave is a high‑power microwave technology company based at Culham Campus, Oxfordshire. We design, prototype, manufacture, test and deliver advanced high‑power microwave systems and components. This includes design and manufacture of vacuum electronic devices such as gyrotrons, magnetrons, and klystrons.
Our projects include power beaming, transmission system design, microwave source development, and vacuum tube design and build.
Role scope
Design and development of kW to MW-class RF and microwave systems, including systems based on magnetron and gyrotron technologies.
Modelling and simulation of microwave systems, components and beam propagation using tools such as HFSS, CST and ANSYS Zemax.
Specification, integration and assembly of RF and microwave hardware to support development and testing activities.
Providing RF and microwave expertise to multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the design process.
Commissioning, testing and troubleshooting of high and low power microwave equipment developed in‑house and from commercial suppliers.
Essential skills / experience required
Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Physics, RF / Microwave Engineering, or a related discipline. Candidates with other technical qualifications combined with demonstrable industry experience will also be considered.
Experience in one or more of: design or analysis or testing of RF and microwave systems.
Experience using electromagnetic simulation software such as HFSS, CST or equivalent.
Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Experience with high‑power microwave systems or vacuum electronic devices.
Experience with magnetrons, gyrotrons, amplifiers or related microwave source technologies.
Practical laboratory experience using RF and microwave test equipment.
Knowledge of antenna, transmission system or beam propagation design.
Experience commissioning and testing RF hardware.
Familiarity with high‑voltage systems and associated safety requirements.
Location
Minimum 2 days per week in Culham Campus office (accessible by car, train, bus)
