Heat Pump Service & Repair Engineer North East in Newcastle upon Tyne

Heat Pump Service & Repair Engineer North East in Newcastle upon Tyne

Newcastle upon Tyne Full-Time On-site
M

Location: North East England | Full-time | Field-based

Salary: £39,000-£45,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

We're a growing heat pump aftercare business with big ambitions, and we're looking for an experienced Heat Pump Service & Repair Engineer to join our team in the North East.

At Mutha Cuva, we do things a little differently.

We don't install heat pumps, there are plenty brilliant people out there, doing just that.

We specialise in looking after heat pumps once they are installed.

From annual servicing and maintenance to fault-finding and repairs, we help households keep their heating systems working efficiently and reliably.

We're currently working on plans to expand across the UK, starting here in the North East. This is a fantastic opportunity to join us at an early stage, develop your expertise and play an important part in our growth.

What you'll be doing

  • Carrying out annual servicing and planned maintenance on domestic air source heat pumps
  • Diagnosing faults, troubleshooting and completing repairs
  • Assessing system performance and identifying ways to improve efficiency and reliability
  • Working on associated heating systems, controls and hot water cylinders within your qualifications
  • Researching unfamiliar faults and working with manufacturers to find solutions
  • Completing digital job reports, service certificates and photographs
  • Communicating clearly with customers and explaining any issues or recommended repairs
  • Following safe working practices and maintaining high standards of workmanship

This is a service and repair role, not an installation role. We're particularly interested in engineers who enjoy fault-finding, solving technical problems and getting systems working properly again.

Who we're looking for

  • Ideally between 2-5 years' experience working with domestic air source heat pumps systems, including hands-on servicing or repairs
  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in Plumbing, Heating or Heat Pump Engineering
  • Water regs
  • Gas Safe registration, particularly for hybrid heating systems
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Good understanding of domestic heating and hot water systems
  • Confidence working independently and managing your own workload
  • A friendly, professional approach to customers
  • Willing to advise and train other team members
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Commitment to safe working practices and quality workmanship

Heat pumps are no longer a new technology, but as more households adopt them, engineers are encountering a wider range of systems, controls and technical challenges.

We don't expect you to have all the answers, far from it. But we do want you to be curious enough to find them.

We're looking for someone who's naturally resourceful, enjoys understanding how things work and takes real pride in developing their skills.

Someone who:

  • Takes ownership of problems and looks for the root cause, rather than just treating the symptoms
  • Is enthusiastic about regular training and continually improving their technical knowledge
  • Takes the initiative to research unfamiliar systems, faults and technologies
  • Understands the importance of looking at the whole heating system, not just the heat pump
  • Knows how to use technical manuals, manufacturer support and other reliable resources to find answers
  • Isn't afraid to ask questions, challenge their own assumptions or learn from others
  • Enjoys sharing knowledge and helping colleagues improve

There will be times when you come across a fault you've never seen before. That's absolutely fine. What matters is having the initiative to investigate, the patience to work through the problem methodically and the judgement to seek specialist support when needed.

We're not looking for someone who knows everything.

We're looking for someone who genuinely wants to understand more, solve problems properly and keep getting better, month by month.

Additional qualifications that are not essential, but that we'd be happy to see

  • Manufacturer-specific heat pump training
  • BPEC or equivalent ASHP/GSHP qualifications
  • WRAS-related training or qualifications
  • F-Gas certification

Not every qualification is essential. We're interested in your practical experience, technical knowledge, attitude and willingness to develop your skills - so if you are intetested but can't yet tick all the boxes, please still reach out.

Starting salary: £39,000-£45,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

We offer

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Company pension
  • Company van and uniform provided
  • Company mobile phone
  • Tool loans (interest free)
  • Opportunities for regular technical training and professional development
  • The chance to join a growing business and progress as we expand

Why Mutha Cuva?

We're not another heat pump installation company.

Our focus is entirely on what happens after installation, helping households look after their heating systems throughout their working life.

We're building a technology-enabled service business that makes heat pump aftercare simpler, more accessible and more reliable.

As an early member of our engineering team, you'll have the opportunity to help shape how we work, share your ideas and grow alongside the business.

We want to create a culture where engineers feel supported, enjoy learning and take pride in doing a great job.

We believe in ooking after our people, treating our customers well, and doing things properly.

Interested?

If you're an experienced heating or heat pump engineer based in Newcastle, Northumberland, County Durham, Sunderland, Teesside or the wider North East, we'd love to hear from you.
