Mustard is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Finance Manager to join our growing team. As Finance Manager – UK at Mustard, you will be at the heart of our UK and European finance function, managing day-to-day bookkeeping, ensuring accurate compliance, and working hand-in-hand with our external accountant to meet all statutory requirements. You will lead the UK delivery of our finance processes, providing timely data and analysis to support commercial decision-making across our growing global business. This role is ideal for a detail-driven, fully qualified finance professional who is excited by the pace and variety of a fast-scaling global e-commerce brand. You will work closely with our Head of Finance and play a key part in strengthening Mustard's financial foundations and commercial clarity.
While this isn’t a people management role, you will work independently across functions, partner with our external accountant, and support strategic decision-making by keeping our books accurate and our numbers reliable. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to step into a business-facing role, gain exposure to a global setup, and grow into future leadership as our finance team expands.
What you will be doing:
- Bookkeeping + Month-End: Maintain accurate bookkeeping in Xero for UK and European operations, ensuring transactions are correctly coded and documented. Ensure a timely month-end close and deliver clean books for the Head of Finance to prepare management accounts. Coordinate accruals, prepayments, and journals with the Head of Finance oversight. Finalise year-end close and ensure financial records are complete and audit-ready. Monitor data flows from Shopify and our Inventory Management System (CIN7) into Xero to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Compliance + External Accounting: Liaise with the UK accountant to ensure timely and accurate VAT filings (UK and EU). Collate and provide documentation for import VAT and cross-border EU sales. Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts and the corporation tax return, ensuring accurate data handover. Coordinate with the UK accountant on tax, compliance and reconciliation regularly. Maintain compliance-ready finance records and provide timely responses to accounting queries. Collaborate with the Australian Business Operations Manager to ensure global consistency in finance practices.
- Accounts Payable + Receivable: Process and reconcile supplier invoices and staff reimbursements. Prepare weekly payment runs and maintain cashflow visibility. Oversee wholesale debtor management and follow-up with the sales team on overdue accounts receivable - UK, Europe and USA. Assist in the setup of new supplier and customer accounts, ensuring proper documentation.
- Payroll + Banking: Oversee monthly UK payroll in coordination with the external accountant. Review pension scheme submissions and payroll journals. Conduct bank and credit card reconciliations regularly. Monitor FX exposures and support the Head of Finance in assessing implications.
- Reporting + Collaboration: Support the preparation of monthly management accounts and performance commentary. Provide ad hoc analysis and financial data for the wider team. Monitor financial controls and workflows for efficiency and risk mitigation. Contribute to process improvement initiatives, system optimisation, and documentation of workflows. Align with the Head of Finance on commercial priorities and budgeting needs across departments. Assist in consolidating data across multiple currencies and markets (UK, EU, US, AU) for group-level reporting.
Who are we looking for?
- You are a fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, or CIMA).
- You have at least 3 years' post-qualification experience in a hands-on finance role, ideally with exposure to international operations.

- You have a strong understanding of UK VAT and EU intra-community sales.
- You are experienced with Xero and comfortable using cloud-based finance systems.
