The role
Deliver small-group instrumental lessons in primary schools. Deliver whole-class music lessons in primary schools. Prepare pupils for concerts and performances. Keep accurate registers and write short termly reports for schools, using our templates.
What you get
A full timetable in term time, with daytime work in local schools timetabled to keep your travel sensible. £26.40 to £32.00 an hour, reviewed at regular intervals based on experience, qualifications, lesson observations and feedback from schools. We invoice the schools, so you never chase parents for fees. Prompt monthly payment, with claim dates set at the start of the year. Instruments, resources and the Musical Mates Awards provided. Induction, constructive lesson observations, regular CPD meetings and a photo ID badge. Concert and performance opportunities, and a friendly, family-run team who answer quickly.
Attributes
Able to enthuse and motivate children to learn. Able to manage the behaviour of groups of children, and ideally whole classes. Able to communicate effectively with children and school staff. Excellent organisational skills. Excellent time management, punctuality and attendance. A positive attitude to change and the ability to work flexibly. A commitment to safeguard the welfare of children, including pupils on the autistic spectrum and those with other additional needs.
Qualifications
A degree in music. Enhanced DBS clearance on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply. Self-employed status, with your own public liability insurance of at least 2 million pounds. Annual safeguarding and allergy awareness training. Business-use car insurance if you drive between schools.
Desirable: keyboard, violin or whole-class teaching, and a teaching qualification.
