About Music Vine & Uppbeat
We’re on a mission to give online creators the tools they need to make brilliant content. Music Vine, our original product launched in 2015, established us as one of the world’s leading music licensing platforms for video professionals and agencies. In 2021, we launched Uppbeat, which has gone on to serve over 4 million users across 5 different asset categories. We’re a tight-knit team in Leeds, and we care deeply about what we build. We believe in transparency, ambition, and giving everyone a real say in how the product evolves. We work hard because we’re genuinely passionate about it, and we’re looking for a Frontend Developer who feels the same way.
About the role
You will be a key contributor across both our platforms, focusing primarily on Uppbeat, and working on diverse areas including search, discovery, subscription flows, admin tooling, and new feature development. We are looking for a driven individual to take real ownership of their work. You will collaborate closely with the Head of Platform, a fellow frontend developer, and our backend team to deliver features that are used by real people every day. As a startup, we value a culture where you openly share ideas and feedback, and genuinely care about the quality of what you ship. Our platform, Uppbeat, already serves over 4 million registered users, giving your work significant reach and impact. The most valuable contributions will come not just from excellent implementation of requirements, but from proactively spotting opportunities to improve things and speaking up about them. If you thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, you’ll fit right in.
What you’ll be doing
- Drive the development and iteration of key features, encompassing elements like search functionality, filtering, player UI, and optimising user journeys.
- Work hands-on with a production-level codebase, utilising Next.js and React, to deliver features that serve real user traffic.
- Collaborate closely with product, backend, and all departments, including the founders, to ensure seamless, end-to-end delivery of features.
- Actively participate in shaping our technical roadmap, making informed architectural decisions, and contributing to how we build, not just what we build.
- Integrate and utilise AI tooling as a productivity lever in your daily workflow.
- Be a valued voice in planning and technical discussions, contributing your expertise and insights to strategic decisions.
Required experience & skills
- Experience working in a Next.js codebase (pages router).
- A good eye for UX and a habit of caring about the details.
- Someone who communicates well and works collaboratively.
- Ability to work independently and make sensible independent decisions.
- Worked with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) and have opinions about how to use them well.
- Experience improving webpage performance and experience using speed-testing tools (Lighthouse, Page Speed Insights).
- A solid understanding of accessibility best practices and ARIA tags.
- A basic understanding of SEO best practices.
Nice to have
- An interest in the creator economy, music, or digital media.
- Experience with search/filter-heavy UIs or content-driven products.
- Familiarity with Typesense, ClickHouse, or similar tools.
- Experience with CI/CD systems (Vercel, GitHub Actions).
- Experience building or maintaining a design system.
