Otley Choral Society are seeking an excellent musician to be our new Accompanist and Assistant Musical Director. The choir was founded in 1943 and currently has a membership of around eighty, across four voice parts. We are a non-auditioned choir performing works from across the classical repertoire, from Bach and Handel up to the present day. We perform four concerts per year alongside our sister choir, Ilkley Choral Society. We are ambitious and looking to build and develop our choral singing, and the successful candidate will be a key part of that journey.
We rehearse in Prince Henry's Grammar School on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. Our season starts in September and runs to June.
The role: we are interested in hearing from applicants wishing to take on the role of Accompanist and Assistant Musical Director, to support Alex Kyle, our Musical Director. We would expect the applicant to have superb keyboard skills including being able to read choral parts from the vocal score. We hope to find a candidate interested in leading sectional rehearsals as well as from time to time taking full rehearsals. The ability to play the organ is desirable but not necessary. The role will also involve accompanying the choir during concert performances where appropriate.
We would be interested in discussing with candidates how the position can be tailored to develop a positive relationship between the choir, accompanist and Musical Director. Current renumeration is £102 per rehearsal.
To apply, please send a CV and covering letter, setting out why you would be suitable for the role, to the Chair of Otley Choral Society, Mark by 22nd May 2026. mark.laurillard@talktalk.net
