The Role
Reporting to the MPA Managing Director, the Membership Manager will play a central role in attracting, retaining and serving the MPA's membership base, acting as a key point of contact between the MPA and its members. This is a role for someone who builds relationships instinctively, understands the commercial value of membership, and is motivated by making sure every member interaction counts.
What You'll Do
- Membership Attraction and Retention
- Drive the expansion and retention of the MPA's membership, delivering initiatives and strategies that reach all groups of current and prospective members.
- Build relationships across all member companies at every level, promoting the value and benefits of MPA membership and encouraging maximum take-up of services.
- Ensure clear, compelling communications on the benefits of membership, using data and reports as a selling tool.
- Oversee the onboarding and renewal process for members, keeping it relevant and clearly linked to membership value.
- Conduct quarterly audits of member contact information and work with the team to keep the MPA website accurate and current.
- Manage and maintain the MPA CRM system, liaising with third-party developers as required.
- Assist with the annual MPA Census as part of UK Music's flagship report.
- Member Services and Relationship Development
- Maintain regular contact across all sectors of the membership — through meetings, office visits and other engagement — to understand member needs and how the MPA can best support the industry.
- Monitor member satisfaction, devising and running an annual survey and providing regular feedback reports to the MPA Managing Director.
- Research and develop new member benefits and services in collaboration with the MPA Managing Director.
- Maintain relationships with fellow trade bodies.
- Outreach
- Produce and deliver the MPA's outreach programme, ensuring it reaches diverse and underrepresented communities across the industry.
- Represent the MPA at industry events including meetings, panels, tradeshows and receptions, and forge new partnerships to further the MPA's profile.
About You
We are looking for an experienced membership or relationship management professional who combines commercial awareness with genuine sector passion and the organisational skills to deliver across a varied and busy portfolio.
You will bring:
- Experience in a membership, client-facing or account management role within music publishing or a comparable membership, creative or commercial environment.
- Proven experience engaging with senior stakeholders and industry professionals, representing an organisation professionally and effectively across a range of settings.
- Experience producing written communications, reports and updates for varied audiences.
- A track record of promoting products, services or membership propositions and demonstrating commercial value.
- Experience managing and optimising CRM systems.
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to respond to member needs promptly and professionally.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Financially aware, with sound commercial judgement and the ability to make well-reasoned decisions under pressure.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to problem solve and work effectively under pressure.
Desirable:
- Experience working within or alongside a trade association or membership body.
