Chetham’s School of Music is seeking a Choral Tutor to join the internationally renowned specialist music school located in Manchester city centre. Chetham’s is a magical place, home to the UK’s largest specialist music school, the oldest library in the English-speaking world and a world-class concert venue all in the heart of Manchester.
The Job
- We are seeking an exceptional Choral Tutor with proven pedagogical experience at the highest of standards, coupled with extensive experience of leading choral and vocal ensembles.
- You will be committed to the education and development of exceptionally talented young people (aged 8-18). The ideal candidate will have a significant depth of experience in developing students’ holistic musical education.
- The role is focused upon the delivery of Chetham’s renowned vocal and choral ensembles (‘Chetham’s Voices’).
- Preferred candidates will have experience of group coaching and working with students to an advanced level in medium and large sized ensembles.
- Chetham’s believes in creating robust, rounded and relevant musicians of the future. We value tutors who share our aim to support students in achieving musical and personal breadth, in tandem with technical proficiency.
- Hours for this role are part-time with initial hours estimated c.1.5 hours per week x 6 rehearsal weeks – delivered as a Spring project – plus associated performances. Hours would be anticipated to increase in subsequent years. Additional choral teaching opportunities may arise as required during the year. NB. ‘Chetham’s Voices’ currently rehearses Tuesdays from 5.00pm – 6.30pm.
- Candidates will need to be flexible with regards to annual hours allocations, which necessarily change dependent upon student intake. Allocations are term-time only and will vary in duration dependent on the nature of the activity.
- Start date January 2027 subject to recruitment checks.
