Centre for Young Musicians is seeking an inspirational Musicianship Tutor with an enthusiastic and inclusive approach to work within our Primary Years Programme.
Location: Morley College, South East London
Contract Type: Self‑Employed
Start Date: September 2026
Closing Date: 16th June 2026 at 09:00
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver musicianship lessons to groups of students in school years 1 to 4.
- Teach across the entire primary age range as required.
- Provide a minimum of 3 hours of work on Saturdays between 11.30am and 3.30pm, with additional hours depending on instrumental specialism and experience.
- Conduct classes on 10 Saturdays per term. (In Year 1, deliver a full year of musicianship training before students choose an instrument. In Years 2–4, provide a range of classes, including instrumental lessons and ensembles, integrating musicianship and performance.)
- Use the Kodály approach and other suitable teaching methodologies for young learners.
- Engage students through singing, playing, creating, listening and movement to build confidence, communication skills and musical understanding.
Qualifications
- Degree in music.
- Teaching qualification and/or experience of group teaching with school years 1–4.
- Knowledge of the Kodály approach desirable; other musical teaching methods welcome.
