We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring musical director for the Bradford Youth Orchestra. The orchestra is forward thinking and regularly explores exciting partnerships with a wide variety of organisations; past events have involved a Soul Band and a Rapper and working with a TV production company for a documentary. The orchestra holds bi-annual residential weekends, tours abroad bi-annually and participates in local, regional and national events.

Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate must be open to new ideas and have creative ideas for the development of the orchestra.
  • Must be willing to undertake all residential weekends and tours, and all events, arranged in discussions with the Assistant Head of the Music Service responsible for ensemble provision.

Requirements:

  • Membership of the group is from Grade 5.
  • Rehearsals take place weekly in term time on Saturdays between 9am and 12 in Shipley, Bradford.
  • Paid at £45 per hour.
  • The post starts on 5 September 2026.
  • The successful candidate will undergo an enhanced DBS check and be expected to complete annual safeguarding and PREVENT training.

The service works in close partnership with schools and the local community and a number of delivery organisations, regional and national partners to ensure that a broad range of high-quality music provision is available, accessible and affordable to all children and young people.
