Founded in 1882, The Royal College of Music (RCM) is a world leading music conservatoire with a prestigious history and contemporary outlook. The College has held this world-leading place in Performing Arts for the four successive years, while Music is a new subject introduced to the rankings in 2024. We are seeking to appoint a Learning & Participation Administrator to support the work of RCM Sparks, the RCM’s flagship Learning and Participation department. RCM Sparks run a series of public events and activities for schools both at the Royal College of Music, as well as a special programme in our local area, partnering with other organisations to provide the benefits of music education where they are most needed in the community. The programme is designed by experienced RCM staff and led by outstanding leaders who are experts in their fields. The leaders are supported by teams of RCM students who are trained and nurtured in the area of learning and participation work, in turn developing a vibrant new generation of educators with relevant and meaningful practical experience. The Learning & Participation Administrator Will
- Take responsibility for the administration and coordination of selected RCM Sparks projects, including the Sparks student training programme – liaising with partners, professional workshop leaders, students, and members of the public.
- Support the day-to-day administration of the wider RCM Sparks programme, including tasks such as payroll processing, right to work checks, DBS documentation, and general financial administration.
- Provide administrative and coordination support at RCM Sparks events, performances, and workshops, including occasional evening and weekend work as required.
- Act as the first point of contact for RCM Sparks, handling telephone, email, and in-person enquiries from students and members of the public.

This busy department is looking for a confident communicator (written and verbal) who demonstrates the ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to the varied workload this post involves. Experience working in learning & participation or music education contexts is desirable and familiarity with safeguarding procedures, right to work, and DBS checks. Your commitment to widening access, enthusiasm for and knowledge of musical activities in community and school settings will be key in enabling you to excel in this role which is a lynchpin in the successful delivery of the RCM Sparks programme.
