Transport Line Manager – Belfast
Based at our Belfast site, the Transport Line Manager will plan, direct and coordinate the day‑to‑day transport operation activities, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of goods to stores. The role leads the Transport team by giving direction, monitoring performance, and maintaining a high quality service. A night shift will also be required on an ad‑hoc basis.
Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and continually develop the Transport team in a harmonious atmosphere.
- Lead by example, following company procedures and leading the team in accordance with them.
- Organise, plan, and manage day‑to‑day transport operations.
- Ensure company compliance with transport legislation and procedures (e.g., tachograph, Digi card, fleet management, Good Distribution Practice).
- Safeguard the safety, health and welfare of employees.
- Liaise with all internal and external stakeholders to maintain a flexible, team‑based approach.
- Compile annual budgetary requirements for transport administration and drivers, including payroll.
- Prepare and implement a strategic development plan for the transport function in conjunction with Senior Management (full list of responsibilities available upon request via job description).
Qualifications and Experience
- GCSE in Mathematics and English at grade C or above, or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a national logistics business with multiple weekly deliveries and transport scheduling experience.
- Minimum 1 year of experience managing a large team in a fast‑moving, customer‑orientated transport operation.
- Significant experience of transport operations at a management level.
- Transport Manager CPC National & International qualification, current and up to date.
- Thorough knowledge of distribution operations, including H&S and HACCP processes.
- Working knowledge of driver hours, tachographs and transport procedures.
- Experience with budget preparation, compilation and presentation of KPIs to senior level.
- Strong PC literacy with advanced knowledge of spreadsheets and databases, and the Microsoft suite.
- Previous experience with IT software such as Stratum and CSNX is advantageous.
- Analytical experience interpreting data presented.
- Excellent communication, people management and customer service skills.
- Good organisational, administrative and problem‑solving skills in a fast‑moving environment.
- A willingness to support the business and transport unit by living the Musgrave values.
Desirable Criteria
- NVQ Level 3 qualification.
