As London Museum gets ready to move into its new home in Smithfield at the end of the year, this is a great opportunity to join us at an important moment in our future. We’re transforming how people access and engage with our collections, and this apprenticeship offers a fantastic opportunity to gain practical experience in library and archive work while working towards the Library, Information and Archive Service Assistant Level 3 qualification through the Westminster Adult Education Service.

Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside our Librarian and Museum Archivist & Records Manager, supporting the vital work of managing and caring for our collections.
  • Prepare our library for its move to Smithfield.
  • List archive records and help researchers access the Port of London Archive at Docklands.

This is a busy, dynamic role where no two days are quite the same—and where your contribution will directly help us transform how people discover and engage with London's heritage.

Qualifications & Eligibility:

  • Previous experience of working in a museum is not required.
  • To succeed in this role, you'll need to be proactive and well organised, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and keep on top of priorities.
  • You should have a genuine passion for heritage libraries and archives, particularly managing collections.
  • You must meet the apprenticeship eligibility criteria: the right to work in the UK and at least three years’ ordinary UK residency.
  • A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9–4 (A*–C) including English and maths is required.
