Help improve the lives of vulnerable children, young people and adults (8‑35 yrs) living with muscular dystrophy, and their families. Contribute to the governance of our small national charity, ensuring safeguarding policy is fit‑for‑purpose and up‑to‑date with external developments. Identify any changes to safeguarding policies, procedures and work practices needed as the charity moves into its 23rd year of operation. Assist in procuring safeguarding training for new trustees and identify additional training needs. Strategic responsibility for safeguarding, working with and supporting the CEO. Act as a storyteller/advocate, passionately promoting the charity’s work across your network. Receive induction, support and training. Bring lived experience and further develop your skills for the benefit of others. Be part of the team that helps the charity achieve its continued mission. Help the charity stay relevant and true to its core values following the Feb 2025 Stakeholder Validation Review. Participate in future‑proofing discussions at the start of the new financial year (1 March 2026).

    Experience of living with muscular dystrophy, other disabilities or life‑limiting conditions is not essential but may be beneficial.

    Role Overview: As a trustee, you will represent the interests of all stakeholders and act as an ambassador. The designated safeguarding trustee is key to ensuring the charity can continue its vital support for its vulnerable community – children, young people & young adults (8‑35 yrs) living with muscular dystrophy, and volunteers who are the life‑blood of the charity. We are looking for a new trustee to take the lead in supporting, advising & guiding the board on safeguarding, acting as the charity’s lead trustee for safeguarding and, where possible, championing our work across your network. We also value transferable skills that could benefit our small family‑centred charity.

    You will be:
