Safety and Security Officer – MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Safety and Security Officer to join our team. If you have a passion for ensuring safety and security in a healthcare setting, we encourage you to apply and become part of our team.

Position: Safety and Security Officer
Location: MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center
Worker Type: Employee
Schedule: 36 hours per week
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine patrols in and around divisional buildings with attention to and rechecking at assigned locations.
- Patrol buildings, check for unsafe conditions, fire safety, prowlers, vandalism, and other unusual occurrences.
- Make rounds of assigned areas at least three times per shift; prepare written reports and logs of issues and operational duties.
- Promptly respond to emergencies and interact with care team members, patients, and visitors during shifts.
- Monitor alarm activations and video camera systems; participate in investigations of incidents and provide reports and recommendations to supervision.
- Maintain a courteous attitude and employ verbal de‑escalation; physical management may be necessary if the situation dictates.
Qualifications
- Minimum Training: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to de‑escalate with the general public and patients, including those with behavioral health concerns or altered mental status. Knowledge of building and grounds security methods and de‑escalation techniques. Ability to engage in physical confrontations when required.
- Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Certification/Licensure: Current and valid driver’s license; basic computer literacy. Ability to work overtime as required. Must pass a complete background check, including a criminal background check.
