Role Overview

The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical building services projects within the retail sector.

The role will involve pricing works for new store developments, refurbishments, and planned or reactive maintenance projects, ensuring client specifications and commercial requirements are fully understood.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 34 years experience in Electrical estimating, be proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working within a fast-paced team environment.

The role requires the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to produce accurate costings using Trimble estimating software.

This position offers an opportunity for someone who is eager to develop their technical knowledge, improve and set the standard on estimating processes, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the pre-construction function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Estimating & Tender Preparation
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for electrical building services projects.
  • Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documents to fully understand the scope of works.
  • Produce estimates using Trimble estimating software and Excel
  • Compile material, labour, and subcontractor costings.
  • Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Prepare tender breakdowns, cost summaries, and value engineering options where required.
  • Technical Review
  • Review client specifications to ensure estimates meet technical and compliance requirements.
  • Identify scope gaps, risks, and opportunities within tender documents.
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to clarify project requirements.
  • Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with the estimating, commercial, and operations teams to support tender submissions.
  • Assist with client queries during the tender process.
  • Attend internal tender review meetings.
  • Process Improvement
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating procedures and systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and cost tracking.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, cost libraries, and supplier information.
  • Market & Supplier Engagement
  • Develop relationships with suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market pricing and supply chain capabilities.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • 5+ years experience in Electrical estimating
  • Experience pricing building services projects
  • Proficiency using Trimble estimating software / Excel
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schedules
  • Strong understanding of electrical building services systems
  • Good numerical and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Desirable

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Quantity Surveying
  • Experience within the retail construction or commercial fit-out sector
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical distribution, lighting, and controls systems
