Murray Recruitment are recruiting a Payroll Specialist for our client based in Lanarkshire. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join a well-established organisation where they can make a genuine difference. We are seeking a proactive and driven individual who not only delivers accurate payroll processing but is passionate about reviewing existing practices, identifying efficiencies and implementing improved processes that support the ongoing success of the business.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Group Finance Accountant, the Payroll Specialist will take ownership of the payroll function, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of weekly and four-weekly payrolls across multiple sites. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining compliance, supporting employees and driving continuous improvement within payroll operations. This position offers significant autonomy and would suit someone who enjoys taking responsibility, challenging existing ways of working and introducing improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy and service delivery. The role provides an excellent opportunity to influence payroll processes and make a positive impact across the wider organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end processing of weekly and four-weekly payrolls for employees across multiple sites.
- Collate, review and verify payroll information, timesheets and employee data to ensure accuracy.
- Process payroll amendments including new starters, leavers, salary changes and employee record updates.
- Administer workplace pension schemes, including auto-enrolment and opt-out processes.
- Download, review and implement HMRC notifications including tax code and student loan updates.
- Ensure all payroll submissions and payments are completed accurately and within statutory deadlines.
- Produce year-end payroll documentation, including P60s, and complete annual payroll updates.
- Prepare contracts of employment and maintain accurate employee records within payroll and HR systems.
- Liaise professionally with employees, HMRC, pension providers and other external stakeholders.
- Provide support and cover for monthly payroll activities when required.
- Review and evaluate existing payroll procedures, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and compliance.
- Support the implementation of new payroll processes and best practice initiatives.
- Ensure payroll activities are carried out in line with company policies, payroll legislation and confidentiality requirements.
Skills however, flexibility can be offered for the right candidate, including: 5 days per week, working 5 hours per day; or 4 full working days per week.
