We are supporting a retained mandate with a highly active real estate lender and debt platform that has grown rapidly over the last 3–5 years, is well funded, and is executing a clear and ambitious growth strategy in the UK and European development finance markets. As part of their next phase, they are seeking to appoint two Originators (mid–Director level) to originate, negotiate and execute high‑quality development finance transactions.
Responsibilities
- Originate and execute principal development finance loans in line with lending targets, ensuring only high‑quality business is written.
- Lead the full transaction lifecycle from first borrower engagement through credit, diligence, documentation, and completion.
- Present high‑quality and accurate proposals to the Credit Committee.
- Maintain active oversight throughout the life of each loan, working closely with Risk and Finance to monitor performance and manage any distressed situations.
- Expand the organisation’s market network and brand, including participation in targeted marketing, industry events and client initiatives.
- Contribute to wider business strategy, product development and the ongoing enhancement of internal processes.
- Oversee efficient handovers to Legal and Credit during due diligence and help drive the DD process alongside the execution team.
Experience required
- A demonstrable track record originating UK development finance transactions for a debt fund or lender.
- A strong, established network across brokers, advisers and developers, with the gravitas to lead and win deals.
- Deep understanding of underwriting and credit risk.
- Ability to coach and support junior team members.
- Comfort with modelling transactions and understanding treasury considerations.
- Strong Excel skills and competence across Word and PowerPoint.
- A solid understanding of AML and associated compliance requirements.
- Confidence in visiting sites and understanding construction fundamentals, cost plans and budgets.
