Mechanical Engineer - Water Sector (Contract)

£500-£530 per day (Inside IR35) | 12-month rolling contract

Peterborough - on site 2 days every fortnight

Mileage, lodging and £25 per night allowance reimbursed

The role

  • You will be responsible for producing safe, compliant and buildable mechanical designs across a range of water and water recycling treatment assets.
  • The role is remote/design-office based, with occasional site visits.
  • Delivering mechanical and hydraulic designs from concept through detailed design to handover.
  • Designing pumping systems, pipework, mechanical building services and treatment process equipment.
  • Selecting and integrating package plant (screens, filters, chemical dosing, disinfection, pumping stations).
  • Designing mechanical equipment for hazardous areas in line with DSEAR requirements.
  • Ensuring designs comply with statutory and client standards (including CDM, PUWER, LOLER, PSSR).
  • Supporting standardisation and development of repeatable design solutions.
  • Working closely with civil, electrical and process engineers in an integrated team.
  • Ensuring health & safety and 'safe to operate' principles are embedded into all designs.

About you

  • To be considered, you will need: HND (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong practical experience delivering mechanical design within the water or wastewater sector.
  • Proven experience with pumping systems, hydraulics and treatment plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of modular build and construction methodologies.
  • Working understanding of electrical, control and instrumentation interfaces.
  • Experience working within regulated capital programmes and stage-gated design processes.

You will be comfortable working collaboratively, communicating clearly with project managers, contractors and technical leads, and balancing programme, cost and quality requirements.

  • Contract: 12 months rolling
  • Rate: £500-£530 per day (Inside IR35, DOE)
  • Location: Peterborough - 2 days on site every two weeks
  • Expenses: Mileage, lodging and £25 per night allowance reimbursed
