We are seeking a technically capable Senior Process Engineer to support consultancy and project delivery across industrial effluent, municipal wastewater and sludge treatment projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining technical problem solving, project management and client interaction across varied environmental engineering projects.
You will play a key role in delivering operational improvements, commissioning support and technical consultancy services, working closely with clients to optimise treatment performance, reduce risk and improve compliance.
The Role
You will provide practical and technical support across a range of wastewater and sludge treatment consultancy projects. The role combines office, site and occasional laboratory work, involving data interpretation, troubleshooting treatment processes and developing solutions tailored to complex industrial effluent challenges. This position offers significant variety, autonomy and client exposure, making it ideal for an engineer looking to take ownership of projects and contribute to business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Engineering & Technical Support
- Provide on-site and desk-based technical support across operational and commissioning projects
- Analyse treatment performance and identify process optimisation opportunities
- Interpret analytical data relating to wastewater chemistry, microbiology and treatment efficiency
- Support troubleshooting of industrial effluent treatment systems
- Contribute to development of technical reports and recommendations
- Assist with commissioning activities to ensure plant performance meets required criteria
- Project Management
- Manage consultancy projects from proposal through to delivery
- Produce technical proposals and scopes of work
- Prepare RAMS and ensure safe project delivery
- Manage resources, timelines, budgets and subcontractors
- Maintain strong client relationships throughout project lifecycle
- Coordinate project activities with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Quality, Health, Safety & Environment
- Support development and continuous improvement of procedures and quality systems
- Maintain strong adherence to H&S requirements including permits and site inductions
- Assist with development of SOPs and technical documentation
- Client Development
- Build relationships with new and existing clients
- Identify opportunities to support business growth through technical expertise
- Present findings and technical recommendations to clients and project stakeholders
Requirements
Essential Experience
- Degree qualified (BSc or BEng minimum) in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Process Engineering or similar discipline
- Experience working on industrial wastewater, effluent or sludge treatment projects
- Strong understanding of wastewater chemistry, microbiology and treatment processes
- Practical experience working on industrial or water utility sites
- Experience managing technical or consultancy projects
- Knowledge of site equipment including pumps, mixers, aeration systems and control philosophies
- Experience preparing RAMS, SOPs and technical reports
- Strong client-facing communication skills
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Willingness to travel to sites across the UK, including occasional overnight stays
Desirable
- Experience supporting commissioning or optimisation of treatment plants
- Experience working within environmental consultancy environments
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements within the UK water sector
